That was a quote from Animal Farm, the story of mistreated animals that have had enough with the farmer. This is George Orwell’s most famous book, besides 1984. It is a great book, and is a great book for a car trip.

On the cover is the pig, the leader of the Animal Farm

On the cover is the pig, the leader of the Animal Farm

Animal Farm is the story of a group of mistreated farm animals, who decide to rebel against the farmer and her wife. At first they are a democratic society where everyone has a say. But as time goes on, it starts to evolve to a totalitaristisiam which is even worse than before.

This book is really good. The characters are great, the story is incredibly intresting, and has pretty good details. The only thing is the setting. The setting could use more work. But, other than that, it is great. This would be great for any fan of 1984, any fan of politics, and some lovers of animal books.

P.S. A lot of people think, because of the title, this is a baby book. It is not. It is a great book adults and middle and high school readers.

I rate this book a 9 out of 10

Today I am reviewing The Princess Bride, written, (or as he says, abridged) by William Goldman. It is a story of true love and high adventure. This one of the greatest books I have ever read.

On the cover is Buttercup, with Westley

The Princess Bride is the story of a woman called Buttercup, the most beautiful woman in the world. Buttercup is to be married to the king of Florin because of her beauty. However, when she gets captured by three pirates who plan to cause a war between Guilder and Florin, she gets caught up in an adventure that will leave the reader wanting for so much more.

This is one of the greatest books I have ever read. It has great descriptions, colorful characters, a very curious setting, and a spell-binding plot. It will hook you from the first sentence onward. I loved it so much, I read through the entire book in one sitting. This book for anyone and everyone.

Today I am reviewing The Bad Beginning, written by Lemony Snicket. I used to love this book when I was in elementary school, however right now, in middle school, I am not a huge fan of it anymore. Still, is a great book for 4th and 3rd graders.

On the cover are the three Baudelaire orphans and their evil guardian, Count Olaf

On the cover are the three Baudelaire orphans and their evil guardian, Count Olaf

The Bad Beginning is the first book of the Series of Unfortunate Events. This book is about three children who had a perfectly wonderful life, until their rich parents were killed in a huge fire. They are now heirs to a magnificent fortune. However, they can not get it until they turn eighteen. In the meantime, they are adopted to a relative called Count Olaf. Their life quickly horrible and they soon discover that Count Olaf has a sinister plan to get their fortune.

This is an okay book. It does not have much setting, and the plot is slow. However, it has good characters and great descriptions. This book would be good for 3rd, 4th, and some 5th graders. But there are much better books out there.

I rate this book a 6 out of 10.

Today I am reviewing a great book called Chasing Vermeer. I read this during a road trip. It captivated me from the first paragraph. The author is Blue Balliett.

On the cover is Petra and Calder.

On the cover is Petra and Calder.

Chasing Vermeer is about a observant girl named Petra and a pattern finding boy named Calder. When they became friends because of a book called Lo!, weird things begin to happen. Their teacher assigns an unusual assignment, an old lady is discussing with them about flying frogs, and A Lady Writing, a stolen painting appears in Petra’s  dreams. Soon they are caught up in a mystery that even the FBI and CIA can’t solve and no one, not even friends , family, or teachers is safe from suspicion.

This book was fantastic. This book has wonderful descriptions, imagination, and setting. You can identify with the characters, and the plot is excellent. I read it in one sitting. The only thing that is bad is that it leaves a couple things unexplained. This book would be great for anyone, at any age.

Today I am reviewing Half-Moon Investigations. It was written by Eoin Colfer, the author of Artemis Fowl. It was a nice book for a rainy day, however I didn’t need to read it more than once.

On the cover is Fletcher "Half" Moon

On the cover is Fletcher "Half" Moon

Half-Moon Investigations is the story of a twelve year old detective. He takes pride in knowing he is a real registered detective, and even has the badge to prove it. He is known as a great detective and he is living a great life until his badge is stolen on the same day he gets another case. Both events point toward a moody kid called Red Sharkey. However, when he starts to get involved, he gets framed for arson and has to find the real culprit before it is too late.

This book has wonderful characters, and a nail- biting plot. However, the setting is not that good, and neither are the descriptions. This for mystery lovers who are fans of the works of Eoin Colfer. This would also be great for people 8 and up.

I would rate this book an 8 out of 10

Today I am reviewing The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a book about  the last male human alive and a book called, like the title, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

This is the 25th aniversary cover

This is the 25th aniversary cover

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is the story of a human male named Arthur Dent. He is the last male human alive, his planet being destroyed by a Vogon construction fleet. The only reason he is alive is because of his alien friend, Ford. Now he is off with his friend and a copy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy  to find the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Will they be able to find it?

This book is really good. It could use more character development and details. However, it makes up for it with setting, plot, and above all, imagination. This book is excellent for people who like science fiction, and wonderful for people who want a laugh.

Today I am reading The Giver. It is the story of a perfect world which isn’t quite as it appears. This book was written by Lois Lowry.

On the cover is The Giver

On the cover is The Giver

In The Giver, Jonas is an 11 year old boy living in the Community, a place where everything is organized and perfect. There is no famine, poverty, or war. In the Community, jobs are assigned at age 12. On Jonas’ 12th birthday, he assigned to receive some memories from The Giver. He is only one in this world who remembers pain, suffering, and joy. Soon Jonas knows the painful truth about his community. What will Jonas do?

This book is fantastic. Incredible imagination, wonderful plot, great descriptions. I can not find anything wrong with this book. It also has a companion, Gathering Blue. This book would be wonderful for people who like 1984 or The City of Ember.

I rate this book 10 out of 10
